Baby Update

The boys are doing good.

They moved from down to the Level 2 NICU (lower risk than where than were in Level 3) together into a HUGE private room. It's large and spacious and has it's own window - very nice!

Toben has been off oxygen since late on Monday. Kellen is still on oxygen but stepping down steadily and hopefully will continue to do well and be off of it tomorrow. Unlike Colorado they won't send babies home here if they're still on oxygen but the low altitude makes the extra help less necessary for most babies.

They both took bottles for a feeding this morning which they will continue to attempt twice a day for now. They take the rest of their feeds through a tube because the sucking uses so much energy and burns calories. They are continuing to increase the amount of milk they take and decrease the nourishment they get through the IV's so soon they should be able to lose the IV's altogether.

They've both lost some weight which is normal but Kellen has lost 12ozs (and is now lighter than Toben). Thankfully, the doctors aren't concerned at this point since they feel it was mostly fluid weight.

The biggest thing right now is that neither of the boys are holding temperature well enough on their own so they are in isolettes (incubators) to keep them warm.

We usually get to hold them once a day for a couple hours which is great, but otherwise the goal is to keep them quiet, still and sleeping so they can continue to develop as quickly as possible.

Other than that they're doing great! As soon as they can hold their own temperature in an open air crib, take all their feedings by mouth and are off oxygen they can come home. They're making steady progress and will likely be home in a couple weeks assuming nothing else pops up.
