My sister gave me The Children's Book of Virtues for Christmas and we've been reading the stories to the kids every night. They sit (mostly) still and listen but you always wonder if they have any idea what you're reading.
The other night we were reading a story "The Legend of the Dipper" which is a story about a town that didn't have any water. A little girl's mom was very sick and needed water so the little girl hiked into the mountains and found a tiny drip of a stream, filled her dipper and brought the water carefully home. On the way home she keeps running into people and animals that need water and compassionately gives them sips. Each time the dipper stays just as full as before and turns from silver, to gold, to diamonds, but she never notices. She finally gets the water to her mother who drinks it and gets better and her dipper of diamonds becomes the Big Dipper that you can see in the sky at night.
Logan had been sick and had spent most of that day sleeping on the couch. As soon as he finished reading the story that night Caiden immediately said that he needed "to get Dad some water so he would feel better". He went and got some and after Logan drank Caiden asked if he was all better, clearly expecting that he would be. What a sweet heart! Guess he is listening :)
