We finally got up enough nerve to try our first family camping trip...
We found a "car camping" spot outside of Glenwood Springs. Our campsite was right by the river, which was nice, but if you looked in any other direction it was basically a parking lot full of RV's and trailers. Right on the other side of the river are the train tracks and we had the joy of hearing 3 trains pass by in the night.
The boy's tent - Caiden and Logan slept in here and did really well. Rylan and I slept in the Suburban and woke up 4 times during the night
The next day we got up, headed a couple miles up the road and hiked to Hanging Lake. Apparently it's the most hiked trail in Colorado, we had never heard of it before this, but other people had! It was busy especially for a Monday!
The hike was tough carrying two small ones, but the destination was AMAZING!
There are signs everywhere making a huge deal about how you can't swim because the body oils will ruin the natural surroundings... as soon as we get to the lake I pull Rylan out of the carrier and she vomits everywhere! It launches all over the boardwalk and slides between the cracks into the lake below. I'm pretty sure vomit is worse for the "natural surroundings" than body oil!
Caiden's riding set-up - we have at least 3 child carriers and used a regular hiking backpack instead - go figure!
We finally got up enough nerve to try our first family camping trip... Caiden had a total, hysterical, screaming meltdown the entire last 1/2 mile up - I'm sure our fellow hikers loved us, but it wore him out and he slept like this the entire way down!
